DESCRIPTION: size: 48" x 72"; medium: acrylic, luster pigment, silicon calk, liquid polyurethane on canvas; While I was looking for a live/work studio at the end of 2003, I kept imaging this figure-- huge, bold, powerful-- like a flag representing a claim. I had a very clear idea of where it was going as I painted the background. I listened to alot of hip-hop funk-- Digable Planets, Jurassic 5, even Eminem-- using a method acquired during the Poetry Painting sessions I took down lyrics with my paint tube. This figure knows who he is, and as such, attracts energy patterns seeking to honor, exemplify, merge with and mimic. Pouring in the plastic was high risk, as it sets in minutes. Gold is a pure, powerful and clearing color.
