Putting up art in your home or office can have a greater impact on your life than you might think. Shannon Turner, an expert on Feng Shui, had some relevant tips that might help you improve your life by improving your space.
The following is selected from Feng Shui Tips from Tranquilspaces.com by Shannon Turner:
Color is one of the most potent ways to shift energy, and conveniently it is a tool that you can use almost anywhere -- in your home, your clothing, on the train, in your car, or anywhere else that you you happen to be. Meditating on the quality of a particular color is even something many people can do with their eyes closed. Or you can simply seek it out in the environment around you, and then allow the essence of the color to affect your own energy field.
Here are some of the traditional associations with different colors:
RED: Vigor and vitality, raw physical energy, passion, loyalty, virility, a strong sense of tribal identity.
ORANGE: Attunement to the senses and the physical body, happiness, optimism, receptivity, flow, social confidence.
YELLOW: Mental acuity, intellectual discourse, communication, curiosity, optimism, self-esteem
GREEN: Health and balance, detoxification, rejuvenation, compassion, kindness, understanding
BLUE: Intuition, wisdom, ability to be quiet and still, surrender of personal willfulness, fresh insight
PURPLE: Transcendence of the mundane, spiritual and material abundance, leadership ability
METALLICS: physical beauty, material wealth, inner radiance
Producing creative work is an internal dance of yin and yang. We become inspired, produce new work, allow ourselves to experience its worth and appropriateness, and then try again.
Fundamentally, yang without yin is prolific but uninspired, while yin without yang trembles with inspiration but produces nothing. Which is your own greater strength?
From a feng shui perspective, it is recommended that you assess which elemental energy is deficient in your life, and then use your environment as a tool for strengthening and supporting that energy.
Here are a few tips:
To support yin (inspiration):
Nature is the ultimate muse. Surround yourself with raw life energy and color, the quality of “attractiveness” manifesting in both men and women, green plants and flowers, the ocean and mountains and the wind. Connect yourself to the energies of the material plane by introducing symbols of the five elements into your living space: fire, earth, metal, water, wood. Bring yourself into the physical body by awakening your senses. Incense or essential oils, music, beauty, delightful foods, soft or textured fabrics, etc.
To support yang (action and motivation):
At its highest level, yang chi is pure conscious awareness stripped of material attachments of any kind. Environments that are somewhat austere can really support yang chi. Expanses of clean and uncluttered space, efficient organizational systems, and pale muted color these all support and strengthen yang chi. The most important principle is to create a clear flow of energy through your entire space. If you don’t love it or use a particular object, get rid of it! This is the single most powerful way to stimulate the flow of yang chi in your environment.
