Gabriel Mott has been creating art that involves community collaboration in the Bay Area and Maui for the last 10 years. He is interested in the ability of art to transform space and the people exposed to it. By participating in the creation of the work, individuals are offered the opportunity to become part of something that is greater than themselves.
He is currently a member of Maui Artists for Peace and is focused on helping to produce the War and Peace Art Show.
In his paintings he uses a broad range of mediums: from oils and acrylics to calking and plastic. The result is a series of multi-layered, bright and colorful canvases. The work is often raw, transmutable and touchable. The use of shiny and sometimes translucent molded plastic creates portals into deep layers offering constantly new meanings.
At UC Berkeley, Gabriel studied Mysticism and Modern Art. His work is highly influenced by street artists as well as classical abstract art.
